Lyttelton Time Ball Station:

Built in 1876, this station is the only surviving time ball station in New Zealand.

It was operated by dropping a ball everyday at 1pm (Greenwich time).  This signals the opportunity for navigators on board ships in the port to note the differences between time ball signal and their on board chronometers.

It is one of the only five in the world to still be in working order.

Canterbury Museum :

Travel back in time through numerous exhibits of the Canterbury region's cultural and natural history.
